Hello friends and fans! Typically, we have an IndieMission at the end of every series. Indie (Inter)Mission is a three week period where we cover the plot and themes of an Indie book. We host a giveaway and we (hopefully) have the winner on if they are available. This usually comes with a listener and fan vote on Twitter, Instagram, and other platforms when able.

However, we’ve switched a lot of things up during #TheYearoftheDresden. Specifically, we are only covering the first six books in the series, and then taking a small break from Dresden Files. We will of course come back after we showcase a trilogy for Season 7! There are seventeen books for Season 6, and they will be between various other seasons we do. We will cover them all.

That means it’s time for IndieMission! But it also means that IndieMission occurs in November, right after Hannah’s wedding. So this year, due to scheduling, we will not be hosting a listener vote. We are sad about it too.

Instead, we randomly chose 12 books to go head to head in an episode NEXT WEEK! We will be posting reviews and/or descriptions of each book and tagging the author when we can. But please check out the episode dropping October 2, 2024 that will reveal the next IndieMission book!!!

This IndieMission’s choices are so amazing! We can’t wait to read them all soon!

The Left Bracket

Shadow of a Dead God by Patrick Samphire: It was only supposed to be one little job – a simple curse-breaking for Mennik Thorn to pay back a favour to his oldest friend. But then it all blew up in his face. Now he’s been framed for a murder he didn’t commit.

Empire’s Daughter by Marian L. Thorpe: Lena’s world is about to change forever. Harried from north and south by two different enemies, both wanting this last remnant of a greater Empire’s land, and with invasion imminent, the military leaders see no choice but to ask the unthinkable: that women learn to fight.

Fairy Godmurder by Sarah J. Sover: Gwendolyn Evenshine thought being a fairy godmother would be cut and dried—take on a charge, solve a royal problem, and return to the Academy for her next assignment. But she got too close. When the beloved Princess Francesca is brutally murdered on her watch, Gwen refuses to resume her fairy godmother duties. Instead, she laces her docs and hits the streets of Boston in search of the bastard who took Frankie from her, a serial killer who operates in lunar cycles.

Revenge Arc by Cat Voleur: When controversial comic creator Riley Langdon is faced with an unimaginable crime committed in her name, she retreats from the spotlight she spent years seeking. But as media, fandom, and obsession churn, Riley’s story takes on a life of its own.

No Lands for Heroes by Cal Black: In a wild west where the only things more dangerous than outlaws are dragons, Deputy Berry is struggling to protect her town and keep her family fed. As a last resort, she robs a train for ammunition only to find that the cargo she needs so badly was owned by war hero Frederic Rousseau.

Last Memoria by Rachel Emma Shaw: A woman who steals memories in this dark fantasy novel. A person who wants to restore the thoughts he lost. A grim novel with characters galore.

Right Bracket

The Living Waters by Dani Finn: A lighter fantasy novel where two people are sucked into mythical wetlands. They are led into a troubled, hidden space. Adventure abound!

The Thirteenth Hour by Trudie Skies: Cruel gods rule the steam-powered city of Chime, demanding worship and tribute from their mortal subjects. A woman becomes a most wanted person after she kills a mortal.

Small Places by Matthew Samuels: A boy meets a witch once upon a time. Thirteen years later, she needs his help finding out what is messing with an earth Spirit.

The Erstwhile Tyler Kyle by Steve Hugh Westenra: A washed-up thirty-year-old actor and reluctant cryptid investigator, Tyler is used to playing the Scully to his best friend Josh’s Mulder on their stupidly popular YouTube channel. But when Tyler receives previously unseen footage of the B movie bombshell mother who abandoned him eighteen years ago—footage linked to an isolated island in the Canadian wilderness—the mystery is one conspiracy he’s determined to investigate.

The Fires of Treason by Michele Quirke: Princess Elizabeth has always idolized and supported her older brother, but when Greg is accused of treason and banished, her loyalty to him is tested in ways she never could’ve imagined.

Phased by Victoria Tecken: According to the Department of Domestication and Assimilation, Val and Lyla Blackwood are the most dangerous kind of werewolves. Although they were raised in the wild, their Trueblood heritage has made them little more than experiments for years. Now, their freedom depends on their ability to become as human as possible, thrown into an assimilation school with humans and werewolves who have never known what it means to be wild.
